Organization - Despription of Departments
Management
The management has the overall administrative responsibility of managing the municipality.
Organization and Staff
The function of organization and staff is to attend to tasks related to the management and staff of the municipal organization. Among the most important tasks are: human resource development and administration, development of the organization, wage conditions, qualifying education, working environment.
Economy and IT
The main tasks of the economy and it department are: budgetary procedures of the municipality, preparation of the accounts, operation and support within the municipal IT resources.
Joint Staff
The joint staff consists of the following four sections: secretariat of the Town Council, secretariat of the Management, Communications and Strategy & Development. These four sections perform a number of both internal and external tasks, such as: service of the mayor, legal counselling, insurance matters, strategies of development and communication, contact to the media, industrial and business support.
Estate and Internal services
The estate and internal services section attends to tasks concerning buying and selling of municipal buildings, maintenance, cleaning and running of the buildings, urban renewal.


Fire and Rescue
The department of fire and rescue has the overall responsibility for both the preventing and relieving work in Silkeborg Municipality. The main tasks of the department are: handling of the fire technical part of construction projects, inspection of fire prevention arrangements, operation control centre.
Technique and Environment
The technique and environment department handles physical planning of the municipality, city planning, nature and environmental protection, maps.


Health and Care
The health and care department is responsible for home care, nursing care at home, rehabilitation after illness.


Handicap and Psychiatry
The handicap and psychiatry department assists and guides children and adults with reduced physical or mental functional capacity. The department e.g. attends to the following tasks: residence offers for handicapped and mentally disordered people, handicap assistants, arrangements regarding contact persons.
Social and Labour Market
The social and labour market department takes care of tasks concerning clarification and preparation for self-support. Among the important tasks are: rehabilitation, cash benefits, integration, job offers, etc.
Citizen Service
The main purpose of the citizen service is to deliver a good service to the citizens of the municipality in a number of different matters. The main tasks are: housing benefits, moving, health insurance, state pension, taxes, passports and driving licenses.


Culture and Leisure time
The Culture and leisure department handles tasks concerning culture and leisure time facilities and events. Among main activities are libraries, sports facilities, culture institutions, contact to volunteer culture and leisure time organisations, playgrounds.


School
The school department handles primary and lower secondary education. Main tasks are coordination of primary and lower secondary education, pedagogical and psychological support, dental service, pedagogical development.


Children and Family
The children and family department attends to tasks concerning day-care in centres and private homes, youth clubs, family counselling, health visitors.
